that, due to some of the stupendously stupid questions and answers on this particular section of the site, that we should remove safety labels off things and not allow any litigation on any part and just let stupid people sort thermselsves out?

I'm all for asking questions if you don't know something, but if you choose to ignore the basic fundamentals of science just so you can try and cook up an answer to support your own idotic version of science then do it elsewhere. Examples that i have seen are people ignoring Newtons laws of motion, one guy stating that the moon was an optical illusion. One particular user stated we should have a report stupidity button as well, which I'm all for.

How can we advance as a species if we still have the "I'll just keep smoking while I fill up my car" brigade knocking around. I think the darwin awrads may be on to something here, they should be celebrated like the oscars. Sorry, I'm tired and a little hacked off with stupidity at the moment.

Look, I don't wnat to sound like I want to start genocide on stupid people. I just feel like we live in a society where stupidity is rewarded more than actually thinking about things. We have Tesco's Organic milk in the fridge that has the allergy warning "caution conatains milk", stupid huh? But if it didn't you could bet your life someone who was lactose intolerant would successfully sue tesco's because there wasn't sufficient allergy advice on the carton.

This is what gets my goat.

I have to agree with you. I thought the whole point of 'Answers' was to ask questions and receive answers but many people have resorted to stupid, meaningless questions that are not really of importance, or interest, to anyone.

OK, it's a bit of light relief occasionally but, with the amount of questions on at any one time, it's becoming more difficult to find answers to what you REALLY want to know.

The stupidity of some answers has, to be fair, even put me off asking questions now!

The STUPIDITY button is probably a very good idea.

Yes all the stupid questioners should go into room 101, and disposed of... byeeeeeee! Yes and all the stupid answerer's should go the same way...byeeeeee!

You see the point I am trying to make is that all of us ask stupid questions at times and and give glibe answers at times.

So to answer your question...yes, I agree to some extent, but because we are all human, and have human weaknesses we do make silly mistakes. And what are we supposed to do; learn by our mistakes.

For instance there maybe people who are eager to participate and learn, and so, they answer questions just so that they feel part of the bigger community and also to look at other peoples answers in the hope that they also may learn something new.

I also know that some participants answer with the first thing that comes into their head just to boost their own points score.

What I will say is and whilst I am guilty of the odd spelling mistake here and there, that it has become obvious to me many of our young folk have either received very little education or who have been deprived of a good basic education and have been let down by the system. It is so sad that some do not even have the basic skills such as grammer, writing and spelling (thankfully this does not apply to all young folk).

What does make me seeth, is having to put us with some of the disgusting language and reading the unsavoury thoughts of some people. I do think that any gutter type Q&A's be given a category of their own and that category only acessed by the use of a bespoke password.Probably not a workable suggestion, but nonetheless a good one I think.

What do you call one stupid person on the bottom of the Ocean; A problem
What do you call 100 Stupid people on the bottom of the ocean; A problem
What do you call all the Stupid people on the bottom of the Ocean; Problem Solved

Whilst I am in favour of a nasty accident occuring to all people who ask some stupid questions, make brainless points, or just don't seem to have a clue about anything (some of these same people dressed themselves this morning), they do serve a purpose in both providing entertainment, or a chance to use my knowledge. I never thought at school that I would need to know that Light Diffraction of the suns white light causes the sky to be blue as of the differences in the diffraction extent, or that Light travels at 300,000 km/s, or that Acid and an Alkali react to produce a neutralisation reaction (You can tell I do the sciency questions). Here, I get to use this info, and keep the grey matter ticking over.

Lets all celebrate our knowledge, whos got a good science problem for us to crunch over, or should I go and do Sudoku.

ok so some of the questions here prove that the gene pool has a shallow end as well as a deep, but if I think that if you don't ask the questions then you don't learn..... I think it is more a sign of poor education and a lack of parental input that allow people to reach maturity without understanding that an iron my be hot, or that a bag of peanuts may contain nuts.

Sometimes the stupid questions make a cheerful heart at the end of an otherwise hectic day. Be glad you don't have a 7 year old chasing you around all day asking you What if.......? questions. Now that gets my goat.

Got to agree with some of the thoughts there.

I mean everybody knows the moon is no illusion,
its where cheese comes from ... ;-) ...

Some are a bit OTT in the lack of thought and effort
some are just funny, but I di like the idea of a stupidity
rating, 1-5 like the appropriateness of answer thing ... :-) ...

Hey, chill, just be comforted in the knowledge that you are a better person than these others and you can stand there, hands on hips and do an evil laugh in the direction of the peasants!

In a previous life they would have been working on your land and you would be horse-whipping them!

Too true,

Survival of the fittest! the dumb people should not be allowed to breed! that way we will advance as a race, and one day, we may actually become an intergalactic race, one of importance in the universe.

What a stupid question.

But, I do agree the moon is not an optical illusion. How can it be when it is made of green cheese?
