We will be staying in Petra for a few days and would like to visit the Dead Sea. Ideally we would like to go there and back in one day. Is this practical? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

It takes 2 hrs to go there and another 2 hrs back.

It will be a bit on the tiresome side.

The earlier you leave the better since it will be fairly hot until mid-late October.

I don't know about going back. Visit Moab also on the way. The ride down to the dead sea is awesome. Talk about pucker factor ten. Also, with the war in Lebennon(sp) going on, security at the dead sea will be very strict. Be aware that an officer will be coming onto your bus. Cooperate and be prepared to answer his questions. They don't like it when you hold your tongue.

You can visit Petra as a daytrip, but you are sure to miss a lot of things. ... It is also possible to see Petra on the way from Amman to Aqaba.
