My friend just got her internet turned back on and they got it set up but it wouldn't work. She took down all firewalls and pop-up blockers still wouldn't work. It would go to the "Can not find server." page everytime they tryed. She wants me to come over and try to fix it. What can I do? Any ideas?

Who is her internet provider (ISP)? Can they "ping" to her modem and recognize that it works to the modem? If not then there's a problem between the provider and the modem, the ISP can probably figure where on their side. If it pings good to the modem, look at the modem lights if it's external (it probably is) Are they all on? do any of them flash a color other than green? If there are no lights on, is the modem plugged in? is the line from the provider going into the correct slot in the modem? if all of those questions are yes - then theres a problem between the modem and the PC. is there a line going from the modem to the hard drive? is it connected properly at each side? the hard drive is turned on and there's power there? Well then my last test would be to make sure your line to the modem is in the right slot, (you may have to try several) and that the line going from the modem to the PC is correct too. After all this testing power down your computer, your modem etc wait 2 minutes powere up again and do an end to end test. If that fails call the ISP again and have them test with you... I guarantee you the problem is most likely in the connection between the network and modem, 2nd best guess is modem and hard dr. Please let me know!!! Good Luck

If she is using a cable modem then I would check out the link status light on the NIC (Network Interface Card) if its dial up then see if the phone jack works. Go to network properties and see if there is a connection. Then last but not least go into the black screen called DOS (Disk Operating System) and type in ipconfig if no response then the internet provider is down.

hmm, I need to know what type of internet it is?...is it like Dial up, DSL or Cable? if its cable and its going into the router, have it go from the cable box straight the computer! also check network connections and double click the icon that connects her to the internet, if the IP address starts with 169.x.x.x then its an invalid address, and something is wrong with the DCHP server, if you don;t what i am talking about then don;t help her with her computer issue..lol good luck

There are so many things that might not be correct. Did you type the IP address correctly? The Gateway address? Do you have a proxy? If so the proxy address and port no. All these things have to be done properly. Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and they will give you all the above.

Nichole have you checked all the cables. Sometime loose cable is responsible for it as well.

Nichole try un-installing your internet software then boot your PC. Now turn PC off and re-boot your PC.

Nichole now INSTALL your INTERNET software this should work. If any file is not INSTALLED properly or corrupt software will be replaced. Good Luck

If the company never got it working why did they leave? Call the ISP back it's their job to fix it.
