We found a cockroach in a roll in a Chinese resturant in Detroit. We told the owner who was also the waiter. We were given free meals for life once a week. The food was damn good. We understood that when bread is given the chance to rise during the night that anything can crawl in there.
How about this story... A friend of mine went to this popular stand in Alabama and got a chili bowl. These bowls were premade during the night for the next day. He was very hungry and ate fast. It was yummy. It was nighttime and dark. When he got to the bottom he noticed that the chili tasted different and turning on the dome light saw that there were a whole bunch of cockroaches at the bottom of the bowl. They were the same color as the chili, therefore hardly seen. He threw up immediately and sued the hell out of the stand. They went out of business thank God. I ate there once but had a hot dog and not chili.

It is never pleasant having foreign objects in your soup...worse still if it is a cockroach. Ask for the manager, show him the cockroach. Keep the evidence with you and if you don't feel well, request for a medical check-up. Check what else the management does for you in the form of goodwill or compensation for the poor hygiene standard.

How about scolding the waiter for not keeping the soup hot enough (scientific fact: in scalding soup cockroach does not swim).

What--are you trying to get tips to bring a personal injury lawsuit? Don't you read the state's Health Code Ratings for Restaurants before you go?

Go to a new restaurant.
No restaurant worth it's salt would tolerate the dungy conditions needed for roaches to live.

Call your local public health department and/or retain a good lawyer if the restaurant has deep pockets.
