Pre-eclampsia signs are a high blood pressure pregnancy, protein in the urine, swelling of the ankles, feet and hands and excessive weight gains. Expectant mothers can have just a couple of symptoms which may or may not put them at risk. So be sure to check with your doctor or midwife if you have any of the signs listed.

A high blood pressure pregnancy can show up in two different ways. Essential hypertension is a pre-existing condition where the mother’s pressure was high before getting pregnant. In essential hypertension, the mom's consistent blood pressure readings are 130/90 or higher.

Gestational hypertension is a different story. It begins when readings start going up and steadily increase after the 20th week of pregnancy. The main concern for both types of hypertension is mainly for the baby. Since high blood pressure can reduce blood flow and oxygen to the placenta, this condition endagers the fetus.

It's normal for blood pressure to go up during pregnancy. However, a reading over 140/90 is detrimental whether you're pregnant or not. Any increase of your systolic pressure, which is the higher number, of more than 30 points above normal and/or any increase of 15 points or more in the diastolic pressure, which is the lower number, should also be a concern for expectant mothers.

Signs of preeclampsia include edema(swelling), sudden weight gain, hypertension and protein in the urine. Prevention includes: 80+ grams of protein a day, eating whole grains and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Also drink plenty of water.

hopefully everything is OK with you now. I went in for a routine check up 3 weeks before my babies due date. Was told my blood pressure was high, swolling in ankles I hadn't noticed. I was completely shocked when the doctor told me I had to be checked into the hospital right then and have labor induced because my baby wasn't getting it's proper nutrients and my life was also in danger. I can't believe they would just tell you everything is fine and not want to check. It is very dangerous. I had labor induced but it didn't work and they were worried about me and the baby not surviving if it was just left alone so the doctor broke my water. Within an hour or so labor began. Otherwise doctor was preparing for a Csection. My beautiful baby boy was delivered naturally and healthy but I kept getting bigger and was still in danger. My body was swelling more and blood pressure rising to very dangerous levels. My kidneys had quit functioning. It is a very serious condition. What kind of doctor would not be concerned ? Luckily everything turned out okay and I had to take pills for a few months to control blood pressure but then it went down and haven't been on them since. Had a 2nd baby and developed high blood pressure so doctor was worried but the baby induced himself LOL broke water 3 1/2 weeks early so no toxemia. I hope you were in your last stages of pregnancy and everything is OK now for you and the baby. If not don't wait get checked out right away..
