I purposely didn't want to put any details about my beliefs and name a particular religion because sick of hearing people calling me an atheist. They don't know what my beliefs are while shoving their beliefs toward me with stupid quotes which have absolutely no meaning to me. To me, they are a bunch of atheists, themselves.

I think thats definitely an interesting way of looking of things. I think I can understand what you mean by the question. Or at least the way I interpreted it as, like if I dont believe in the same God as Christians, and they deny the existance of any other god, then technically, according to them, I wouldnt have any beliefs, because you cant believe in something that isnt there (or can you..O_o) and therefore could be considered Atheist.

As far as everyone getting so offensive and calling names on here, why bother. You werent forced to answer. Its all a matter of how you look at things. Think about it.

Atheism means not believing in religion (a = anti or non and theism relates to religion) so anyone who doesn't believe in religion is an atheist, like me for example.

So, it depends what your beliefs are - if you don't believe in God and someone disagrees with you, they are probably not an atheist!

There seem to be some very insulting answers here, which I find interesting - as an atheist, I don't find this question insulting at all - it seems like a simple 'what is atheism' question to me, and I wouldn't be upset by being called close minded by someone who is obviously very closeminded themselves - there's no need to be offensive on here.

Who cares about your beliefs? If you believe that the Sun is not going to rise in the morning or set in the evening will your belief change the natural course of things? I don’t think so. If you believe that you are not going to get old, get diseased and die will this not happen to you? I don’t think so.
Similarly, if an atheist believes that this Universe came out of nothing and there is no intelligent Being behind it, who is in control, will this disprove the existence of God?
Atheists are like glowworms who are trying to dispel the darkness of night by their tiny illumination. God is like the Sun. Wherever there is Sun there can be no darkness. Wherever there is God there can be no nescience. We don’t care a bit about this glowworms. We get light from the source.

To be an atheist by definition means not believing in any kind of power or consciousness higher than our own. A-no theism - belief in a deity of some kind.

You are not. But many dogmatic religions say so. As a matter of fact, they treat you as worse than an atheist. You are a heathen, or heretic and what not. You are considered to be an enemy of God and a sinner, fit to be burnt at stake or jehaded(beheaded).

No, you're a human capable of understanding your reality in your own way; you just can think for yourself even if it differs from others.

Although if that different thinking means you don't believe in a higher power, then yes, yes it does make you an athiest.

Not believing is different than disbelieving, which is the difference between agnostic and atheists, respectively -- in the context of religion of coarse.

No, you're just an ignorant prick. I'm an athiest if I don't have any beliefs. You're still ignorant, though, and closed-minded.
