Well congrats on your day of the year! Of course time flies nowadays, probably like it's never flown before!
I think that life is punctuated by emotions and responsibility, and the more emotions that you experience and the more you take on in life, the faster those days go! And in real terms, a year is nothing more that a few months and seasons, is it? But on the downside, life seems to be fo fast and furious that special things that we experience through our lives seem to pale into insignificance with time. Do you know what I mean? That's a great shame as special things don't come every day, do they? Hence the importance of film, photos, scrapbooks, albums .... fill your life with your life!

You sound sad and wistful? You're right time does go faster as we get older, but perhaps you sound sad because your life hasn't moved forward as fast as you would like. A wasted year perhaps? Take time to live now, experiencing the joy of 'living in the now.' The future will take care of itself if you do what is right for you now, not what is expected or expedient have a great birthday.
