It's absolutely okay. A postage stamp is void only when a Post Office's seal is apparent on the surface of the stamp.
Just make sure that enough postage is applied on your letter for proper delivery.

You can use it if it is only slightly damaged, but if a big hunk is gone, the post office will think you tore off a cancellation to reuse the stamp, and then they will refuse it.
