I am sure this question is asked to show how interested you are in the company. So I would state that I would personally get in touch with the panel to figure out the main reason I was not hired. With that information on hand, I would work out on my weak areas and then apply for the job, with the aim of proving that am the best. It proves that you are persistant and will not leave an assignment incomplete just because you had handles on the way.

Well, simply if you I do not get hired I would
*Ask your company politely if I can be hired because I really want the job.
*Tell the company politely that if you do not want me in your company, I will find another job.

Best answer i think would be along the lines of: Keep my head down and work towards getting a position with a company who has the same type of reputation as you?

I will apply for your rival company and increase business so much that you will lose clients and money and realize what a mistake it was not to hire me. Or, go find another job somewhere else, because I need a job for a reason, and that is to make money to survive.

"If I am not hired for your company I will be rather disapointed, But I will have to pick myself up and continue my search for the perfect company. Sometimes things happen for a reason and this must had happened for a reason. It would had been an honor to work here for this company, but I will have to keep my head up and go on."

They want to know if you want the job because you have nothing else better or you'd do something similar because it's something within your long term goal. They also want to know your general direction and your foresightfulness.

Since you want to convince them that this is the right thing for you (if this truly is what you want, that is) tell them that you'll want to find out why you didn't get it, so you can improve that and apply again in the future. Or, that you'd have to go with the second best option, but you want to stay in the similar line because you believe that will allow you to achieve your ultimate goal.

Prepare what you're going to say in advance, so you can say it natually and convincingly.

I'm guessing they want something in between picking off employees from a clock tower and groveling relentlessly at your feet. Make yourself sound confident like this line of work is what you are passionate about and you will look up it as a setback, but will learn from the experience. Don't sound too confident though as you don't need the job, because they just may answer your wish.

I will apply at another time. Even though, I may not be the best candidate for this current position, I am confident that I will be an asset to your company and will apply for another available position.
