The Merkur XR4Ti was made between 1985-1989 by Ford. They used Merkur as a brand to import their European models into the US. Two cars were imported the XR4Ti and the Scorpio. The European version of the XR4Ti is the Sierra XR4i which had a V6 or a V8. When Ford realized the cars weren't selling in the US they created a sister car known as the Mustang SVO. This car is almost identical to the XR4Ti except that you could get it without the turbo. If your looking for parts for it they're are number of selected dealers around the US as well as many sell on eBay and if you trouble finding the exact part under the XR4Ti try looking for the part under the SVO seeing as Ford makes every replacement part for every mustang from 1964 1/2 to current date(with the exclusion of roofs). BTW they are wonderful drift cars.

This engine is a pretty common one even though the car is rare. Ford used versions of the 2.3 on everything from '70s Pintos to '90s Rangers. I would just check out local parts stores - see if you can get a clutch by Raybesdos. Ford dealers probably have them too. Many of the cheaper bargain price clutches are likely to be junk.

Well good luck with it, my sister used to have the XR4Ti and the Scorpio as well, great cars just way to far ahead for everyone else in the US I guess. Well be prepared to spend a ton of dough on your Merkur. I would google search it and you may have to get in touch with a Ford Service consultant to find out. I would seriously consider dumping the car or trading it in. Those cars are great but they stopped making them for the US market, its a shame !
