I'm going to ignore for the time being the second part of your question because it makes next to no sense. As for why people believe in idol worship blindly, it's because it's safe. Think about it; forget about not being able to comprehend true nothingness in death, because you're going to go to heaven! Paradise! But only if you believe in this particular idol/god/carpenter/whatever. Yes it's irrational. But it's optimistic, and promises great things. I believe Karl Marx wrote, "Religion... is the opium of the people."
