I would go to Italy, the food is great, people are friendly, and the art, history, and scenery are remarkable. I would recommend that you stay two days in Rome, take a bus tour to see the main tourist attractions, and then rent a car for five days and drive to Tuscany. The towns in Tuscany are SO beautiful--San Giminiano, Siena, Montecatini, and of course Florence. We stayed in Montecatini and did day trips to other places. Plan to spend an entire day at least in Florence so you can go to the art museums--Uffici and D'ademia are a MUST. Also Santa Croce Church, the Duomo and Baptistry, and the Piti Palace. If you want you can also drive to Pisa, but I wouldn't really bother. It's not as nice a city as the others I mentioned, and after you see the Tower, the church, and the Baptistry, there's not much else worth bothering with.
If you stay in Montecatini, you can visit the spas there to soak in the baths, or also have a massage. It's not overly expensive, and it's very relaxing. Take the funicular up to Alti Catini--the view and the outdoor cafes are really worth it.

I would choose the Amalfi Coast in Italy. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The people are friendly, the food is amazing. You can rent a villa for very little. Open up all the windows and let the ocean breeze come in. The floors are marble and feel fantastic on your bare feet. The Italian Rivera is amazingly beautiful and romantic.
