You need to troubleshoot in the following order:
1. Check Modem settings. Some Modems require "Look for dialtone before dialog" setting to be disabled.
2. If modem is on and still not able to connect, check user name and password. That could be a problem.
3. If user name and pwd are correct, then you are trying to connect to wrong ISP. Check your ISP Network settings - these details are provided mostly when you took new connection.

First check whether he/ she is able to connect to the LAN if not work that out and if yes go a head and check the settings for your internet that is the IP adress, Gateway, DNS and you can check this by checking the properties of your network. If all settings are ok and you still cant connect contact your ISP.

check his connections/configurations... if on you end, and your other clients are operating without any trouble, then perhaps, your new client may have not followed earlier instructions or mighty unfamiliar with the system... however, if other clients also experience the same problems, it's on your part, your server set-up and configurations that's causing the trouble.... best way, is if you ask the client to bring his pc to your shop and you handle the situation yourself (fixing the problem)....

ask him to turn off his connection or restart it again or re-install the connection.or mat be problem with the internet as it may be down in the area.

At first, i will check that wheather he is able to connect with LAN. and if it is ok, then i will check the gateway, DNS and proxy settings..
