It's true that a lot of people tend to choose the number 7 as their favorite number or just as a random choice. When asked to choose a number between 1 and 10, most people will choose 7. It is the most common number thought of off the top of one's head. In the 1950s, a paper titled "The Magical Number 7, Plus or Minus Two" by a cognitive psychologist named George A. Miller. According to this paper, the number 7(±2) has correlated with with human performance on cognitive tasks. It also pointed out that channel capacity of the human brain on various tasks was around 2.5 bits of information, and the capacity of short term memory was also found to be at around 7(±2). Two seconds is the duration of the English spoken form of 7(±2) digits, while in Chinese it's the number 9 and in Welsh the number 9. The concept is hard to grasp, so I would suggest you try this website to understand it better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magical_Number_Seven%2C_Plus_or_Minus_Two.

Maybe because of some facts that has 7 in it. But in our country 8 is more special, because when you write it, it's going up. It's just superstition. If you believe in it but it has no scientific explanations.

it comes from the ancient time when man looked at the sky , and he saw 7 big heavenly bodies , Sun, moon, mars , Venus , mercury, Jupiter , Saturn .
these are the planets ( or heavenly bodies that could be seen by naked eye) they named the days of the week based on that (also check out the origin of names of the days of the week in Latin )
