If 7-Eleven's are 24 hours a day, why are there locks on the door?

They have locks in case they need to lock the doors from a criminal, or go out for an emergency.

for emergencies . years ago( back in the 70s ) i worked in a 7/11 ..........and we would lock up for twenty minutes while we mopped and polished the floors .

in the past denny's didn't have locks on their doors , then they decided to close for a few specific holidays , they had to install locks at all locations .

For holidays... and then for the time when you have to lock the store when you are not at the counter and it's 3 in the morning and you don't want anyone to come in for a minute... like if you have to crap or something.... I know it's sick... but that 's what we used to have to do...

It cost more to replace a door without a lock.

One good reason is that when they were building it, the store was full of stock that could be stolen way before it was actually open for business. But also the store may have to be closed periodically, even though unintended, during emergencies.

Those type of doors probably aren't manufactured without locks built into them.

So people don't rob them in case of an emergency or holiday. Just in case there is only one person working and they have to go the bathroom.

...and as for your question...city building code? Insurance?, mabye to lock out the cops when you rob the place?

Why don't you call them and ask them? I'm sure they've never heard that before. Also ask them if their refrigerator is running and if they have Prince Albert in a can.
