I want to raise some pinkie mice. And i wanted to know is anyone knew where i could find some. I have read about it and i think i would like to raise one. i know you can find them at some pet stores, but i was wondering were some people who may have snakes or geckos to feed know where to get them. Thanks..:]

It's great that you would like to help out some mice, but just make sure not to get your hopes up. The rate for mice making it with a humane "parent" is very low, and even less depending on how young the mouse is. Pinkies are prettymuch mice under 6-7 days old (they start getting fur by then, and are therefore not pinkies anymore)- that's a very young age.

Mice at this age cannot even go to the bathroom themselves and must be fed a small animal/baby animal formula many times a day (and night...and early morning...). They also require a heating pad.

It would be much easier to purchase some young mice, but older than pinkies, from a breeder or pet store. The chance of a pinky making it is less than 20%- and that's assuming you've done everything properly.

I don't want to be a wet blanket! I love mice (I breed them, even). I just don't want one of your first experiences with them to be an exhausting and possibly traumatic one. If you do decide to try and raise one, I would suggest doing a bit more research first. I mean even if one in, like, 10 make it, then I suppose that still might be better than the odds of them all being eaten as feeders.

However, you did just give me an idea about possibly fostering pinkies with a nursing doe....hmm...

As for finding pinky mice- most local or small pet shops sell them. I know a lot of Petsmarts don't, but I don't know about Petco. Usually smaller chains do though.

Good luck!

The term "pinky mouse" refers to the age of the mouse when it is offered as food to other animals. All mice are pinkies before they get fur. When they get fur, they aren't pinkies anymore.
