Use diamatous dirt. It is nox-toxic. It is made from finely ground silica. The ants get it on their bodires and carry it back to the nest. The diamtaous earth(correct name) cuts the ecoskelton of the ants and they die. Used this on black ants( teo inds), red ants and carpenter ants. It worked. After a rain you will have to reapply. Can be purchased at Lowe's or a garden center. Works on catapillars and cut worms, too.

Get an ant eater this is not a joke but i am telling you seriously as in you already have so many animals you can as well have one more instead of using any disinfectent that could hurt kids and animals

Believe it or not, Windex kills ants. After killing the visible ants in the house, spray a light mist around the area that they are coming in. You just have to remember to refresh the area after shampooing or washing. It really does work.

I used cornmean and it worked like a charm. Sprinkle cornmeal all around the base of the mound. The ants will carry bits of it to the queen. They will eat it, cornmeal will expand inside them and cause them to die.

It's worked for me on two ant mounds so far.
