I have both of those games including the expansion for Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil. They kick major ***.

Doom 3 is probably still the most exciting PC shooter in existence. It's damn creepy and a bit intense. Quake 4, has the better physics engine and is more about action than ambience.

Both these games kick the crap out of HL2. HL2 has better rendering but the game itself is pathetic. Basically a waste of a superior physics engine. There are two FAR better games made with that engine. The first is the RPG Vampire, the Masquerade, Bloodlines, which has MUCH better art and a thousand times the plot. Then there is F.E.A.R. which has an OK story but superior AI.

However, if you are looking for a new game to play, might I suggest the new one, PREY. This game has the most advanced implementation of a physics engine of any PC shooter ever made and is a hell of alot of fun to play.
