When the main theme of the founding fathers was just such a fear? And history has proven time and again that your own government is the most dangerous entity in the world to your well-being as an individual?

The irony of this question, is that the best explanation is to read the answers of the very people I was talking about. No person could more eloquently illustrate the problem than the ignorant ones themselves...

Haven't you figured out that most Americans have very low levels of insight while overly high levels of arrogance. This lack of insight is why Americans can't see through the manipulation and propaganda.

Because no matter what we need some form of government otherwise anarchy would ensue...it is clear by looking at the rest of the world, that our government isn't all that bad. In fact, we are one of the richest nations in the world, and most people who live here are very lucky...why do you think so many foreigners are dying to get into the country??

if you have such a problem with the government here, i suggest moving somewhere else if you think the US is so wrong.

Then, after living in a third world country for a while with a truly oppressive government that won't even let you post a question like this on the internet because there is no freedom of speech, or better yet...no internet...then come back and complain about the oppressive government in the US.

The government has done nothing to make us fearful, seeing that our leaders are regular people, some of which I personally knew before they became politicians. Im not worried at all.
Another thing is that the federal government hasnt ever done anything against its people. the state governments have and they were smacked back into order by the presidents.

The truth? Americans are not well informed or well educated enough to understand the threat that government intrusion poses and therefore do not fear because they have no idea what the hell is going on. Not that I think this of all Americans, just that I know this of most.

The erosion of our civil rights is a process that happens over decades, even generations, as people trade freedom for a little bit of security. As people get used to the lesser freedoms, it gets lowered even more.

(Think '1984' when the government, who just decreased chocolate rations, announces that they are increasing chocolate rations to the new (lower) amount. People cheer and are happy, willing to forget the loss of chocolates and the dehumanization of their culture in favor of some false security and 'safeness'.)

Benjamin Franklin said "Those who would trade a little liberty for a little security deserve neither." And I believe that statement.

But people are ruled too often by fear over common sense. They look around, afraid of what 'they' are going to do to 'us'. A new 'security measure' is passed, and people are so happy to be less afraid, that they ignore the problem of decreased civil rights.

I guess I would need a reason to first. I do pretty much what I want when I want and nobody from the government is hassling me. I am more concerned with what the state and local governments are doing as they do some real stupid s hit sometimes and it is more likely to have an effect on me, my family and community.

When you have a leader who does not do for the best interests of the nation he's supposed to be leading, but insists upon marching to the beat of his own drum ... oppression is sure to ensue.

We do feel it, to answer your question. Those Americans who deny the tangible reality of the negative energy produced by the present administration, are a quandary to me.

Because our government always managed a way to divert our fear to something else. From the early days of troubles against Britian. To immigration in the 1900s-1920s to wwII to vietnam and now to the war in Iraq. we had always pinned our fears to something else so it would distract us from everything that they are doing that is oppressive and wrong. Why do you think war in Iraq is for? Is the problems in Iraq greater than the social problems here? Things like that are just meant to distract our attention so we wouldn't criticize them.

It is a fear because the bigger our government gets the less freedoms we will have. That's why I tell all who will listen to vote Libertarian and stop this madness befor it's too late. I do believe in conservatism but in the present government I don't see any. Wake up America!!

I believe in the American, (united states), dream of freedom , liberty, and justice. Still I see examples of a government abusing it's power from time to time and more in the last decade. Frankly ,I fear for the United States future.
