Let's generalize here. Canadians do not like us for who we are. Why's that? I don't have anything against Canadians.
You should respect us. If it weren't for the US, there would BE no Canada. That's the brutal truth many Canadians do not like to face.

I think you over estimate the anti- American attitude that you think exists in Canada. You seem to be under the impression that the entire world would fall apart if it wasn't for the USA. How can you even fathom the thought logically that Canada would not exist without the US????? Truth be told if Canada and other countries stopped their exports to the USA your country would indeed be in dire straights. If all of the countries that you personally have back stabbed in your prior posts stopped supporting the USA as allies the USA would be in major trouble. Canada owns a larger part of the Americas than the USA and we have all of the natural resources that your country needs. We are a very stable strong country and we could survive very nicely, as we always have with or without the USA or anyone else for that matter. You make a lot of derrogatory remarks about other countries but you can't back up your claims. The last two sentences of your question contradict your claim that you have nothing against us. You obviously have some issues. You would sound much wiser if looked in your own back yard before insulting others and asking such stupid questions. Your arrogance is sickening and your ignorance, even more so. That is what Canadians have an issue with not the country as a whole. Thank the good lord that your attitude is that of only a handful of Americans. We are neighbours sharing the same border and should try to respect each other. Instead of wasting your and everyone elses time on a site meant to help each other, your time would be better spent reading and studying so that you could actually post some constructive information. Do not forget that Australia, the UK and Canada ( all countries you have bashed in other posts) all have good reason to be proud of our own countries. We don't have to put other countries down to boost our image. You have an over inflated view on the importance of your country, in comparison to the rest of the world. The brutal truth you say ? ROFLMAO .We all hold our own quite nicely, thank you.

As a Canadian, I can assure you that those Canadians who may appear to be anti-American are definitely in the minority. Canada has troops in Afghanistan to support America's peace efforts there. Canada declared war on Japan before the US did. As a Canadian I enlisted in the USMC and fought in Viet Nam, even while many American draft dodgers were fleeing to Canada.

It is similar to the way New Yorkers view Angelinos. There is a rivalry, but not a hatred or even an "anti". It has been said that Americans are arrogant and Canadians are smug. Based upon the UN Development Index, Canada has been rated the best country to support human development more than any other country. The US hasn't made the top once. Canadians are just jealous that the US always gets so much attention. Most successful Canadian athletes and entertainers go south. We can't say that they emerged out of an anti-US culture can we?

And then there is every winter when us snowbirds head south to Florida or California. Are they anti-American?

Upper Canada (Ontario) was essentially populated by British loyalists who were refugees after the US Revolutionary War. As a result, Canada's raison-d'etre was loyalty to the Crown unhappiness at losing their farms, etc. in the US. But we've gotten over that and now we like you. But sometimes it is fashionable to criticize and be "anti", rather than be "for".

Ha! good one.... a classic demonstration of great American schooling. Is that what you learned in your Canadian history class? Your ignorant comments just prove why so many of us might be considered "anti-American." That is also why most of the entire world is anti-American. NO, Canada would not cease to exist if the US dropped off the face of the earth. Do you know how much the US depends on imports from Canada? You spoiled your resources long ago.

And you're half right in saying there would be no Canada if it weren't for the US. If we didn't have such nasty, arrogant neighbours to the south, Canada probably wouldn't be considered as great a country as it is now by the rest of the world. It's a great measuring tool. And unlike the US, Canada actually gives a damn about the rest of the world's opinion.

Truth. Most Americans don't know the meaning of the word. You all think the world lives and breathes because of the U.S. Most Canadians are not anti-american, they just happen to believe Canada is better in many ways than the U.S. Can we match up militarily? Of course not. Does that make you better? Of course not. Canadians realize that there are good and bad in all countries and that is where we differ from you. World histrory begins in 1776 in the U.S. and world geography is only between your borders. If someone doesn't agree with your view, they become anti-American. What a paranoid people. You have an idiot for a president, and within reason, you are hated the world over. We are and have been your closest ally, greatest trading partner and you call us anti-american? We recognize minorities , have no history of slavery, didn't need troops to escort our citizens to school, and don't need to build bigger guns to promote our way of life. Sound like you are jealous of us up here. Anti-American? If you are an example of an American, anyone in their right mind would be anti you and your views. Me? My Mom was born in Massachusetts, my grandparents were as well. My wife is a direct desendant of one of your Presidents. I am anti-bigots and since your question says to generalarize, I'd have to say you are all a bunch of war-mongering biggotted, paranoid, ignorant, uneducated, in-bred bullies who deserve absolutely no respect. But anti-American, not a chance.

Okay, let's generalize. What are you basing your thesis on? There are a few Americans we don't like -- like JZWigger, who spends his time slagging Canada and Canadians. But by and large, we DO like Americans.
Most Canadians don't like generalizations (I know, that's a generalization, but it's also a truism) and we prefer to judge people on an individual basis.
I'm not sure which history book you've been reading that prompted your statement that if it weren't for the US there would be no Canada, but that's a whole other discussion which isn't germane to your original statement.

It's not true that Canadians don't like USAmericans for WHO they are! They dislike some of you for the way HOW they behave towards other nationalities. You give a good example yourself: there would be a Canada without the USA as well as there's Australia and other former british colonies without the USA.

If you let others feel the USA (which is of course NOT America but just a part of it) is the self-declared No 1 Nation of the world you will in most cases get a reply showing that you're not - and this isn't limited to my dear Canadian friends. ;-)

So Canadians aren't anti-american but not pro-american (and why should they be?!!!), and pro-canadian. Why are you anti-canadian as your question implies?

We don't hate Americans. We actually get a good laugh sometimes, watching what you get up to. What we do hate, actually and there's not many of them, are people that ask a question like this and give an opinion with a rant. You sound like Jzwigger almost.
If there were no US, we'd actually have more Native Americans on the continent and a bigger country. Just a thought.

Edit: This is for Hellbent, not anymore are they in there to support the original American initiative. The Americans are leaving and just the other day, transferred command to NATO.

This is a good question. Some of the questions and answers on here may lead you to believe otherwise (because some Americans are picking fights with the Canucks on here and vice versa), but we're not THAT anti-American. We just get sick of the US thinking they're all big and bad and own the world. And I'm pretty sure we'd still be here if it weren't for you guys. I mean we'd be bored and all because you produce some good T.V., oh and I'd miss Ben & Jerry's icecream if USA disappeared. But overall I think we'd be fine.

There wouldn't be a canada? May i remind you we (yes, we, god save the queen) kicked your sorry asses back in 1813, and burned the white house down. TWICE.

You're lucky you guys are there, we stuck with the commonwealth and did quite nicely, whilst you morons had social issues up the ying yang since the day your precious "independence" came about. We just signed a few accords about 40 years ago and are now the BEST country to live on earth, yeah, you read right, the best. And that's not according to us, that's according to everybody else.

And our beer tastes better, is cheaper and is stronger. HA!

So to answer your question, we hate you because you're arrogant and think you're better than us, exhibit A being your question. We'll see in 50 years who's doing better.

Cheers.

Hi nycdude! There are a lot of good Americans. I have met many wonderful people in the US. From what I have been able to gather, Canadians like / get along with Americans....it's probably more the government they don't like. There's good and bad in every country.
