i just got back from hollywood... each star has a name and a bronze symbol... you can get up to 5 stars, 1 each with a different kind of symbol... the five symbols are: a motion picture camera (for movie stars & directors), a television set (for those in the television industry), a phonograph record (for singers, songwriters, and recording artists), a radio microphone (for radio luminaries), and the twin theatrical masks of comedy & tragedy (for live stage performers).

you must apply for a star on the walk of fame running from gower street, up vine ave, and continuing on down hollywood blvd... the cement imprints of stars' feet and hands in front of the Chinese Theater are randomly selected, i guess, according to that person's achievements.... im not too sure about that one.

Prints in cement are looked at, have pictures taken of, and genually admired, whereas a star is usually ignored and just walked over. Alot of people like to put their own hands and feet on the prints of the celebrities, so see how they compare.

A star can be bought - its $3,000 from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and is usually paid for by a fan club (the star cannot buy one/nominate themselves nor can any of their employees).

The cement hand/feet prints are by invitation only. You have to be REALLY famous for that.

Stars are not bought they are earned, invitation only just like the cement hand prints. geez people if it was only three grand wouldn't the walk of fame be filled with celebrity names from top to bottom?

You have to submit an application for a star. Then some committee somewhere votes on it. That's all it takes.

The Mann's Theater cement is far more prestigious, celebrities have to be invided.

Becoming famous. Prints are more esteemed because fewer stars have them.
