Democracy cannot be forced on a population, they have to want it, and want it bad enough to fight and die for it. When you force democracy on a population they wont appreciate it as much as they would if they had fought for it, and the populace will resent you for forcing your way of life on them.

Democrary is a sweet word but it is very hard to get digested. First of all, the government that rules a country cannot impose democracy voluntarily without any popular agitation. I am not in a position to understand the word 'without' in your question. I presume that means pressure from the people. I don't think that democracy is panacea for all the social evils. I just remember a quotation from a famous political scientist which reads: "Democracy is the best of bad governments and the worst of good governments".

No.Imposing democracy??sounds strange enough for me.Imposing something simply contradicts democracy.
All the successful changes along history were emerging from the interior.People have to believe in themselves and their power to choose,it may take time but it will come.Besides, outside dictations may make it harder to carry out the democratic changes as it will stimulate national and anti-foreigner notions.
As imposing democracy is directed mainly towards:
1.The Arabian Muslim countries:I think that if America left them on their own, they'll be very democratic. As these countries have many debating minds that seek change plus that their Islamic basis make it very easy to make a very democratic nation due to the basic teaching of Islam that's called "Shura"=consulting each other and has the meaning of the highest democratic levels in Arabic.
2.South American countries:the USA interference is so annoying to their national behavior. They have great minds too.

No. I think it must often come at the end of a gun, but usually the people trying to impose democracy are staring down the other end of it.

good question. Undoubtedly not. The people have to believe in democracy and most of them do not know what it is or how it works. Iraq will NEVER be a democracy. The people wouldn't know how to act and what to do. Iraq needs a very tough ruler who can prevent the Sunnis and Shiites from killing one another.

I don't think that's possible. It was certainly not forced onto the United States. Each group has to write their own declaration, fight their own battles, initiate their own revolution.
