You have to buy the game.. then you have to pay a monthly fee to play with others... Doesn't sound worth it for me.. I stick with Warcraft the Frozen Throne... You build troops and a town and fight other teams and races.. Lots of Fun..

World of warcraft has a huge back story, tied into the Warcraft series.
Basically, a Horde of orcs came into the world known as Azeroth from a dark portal. They waged a war upon the inhabitents, made alliances with other races, etc. Now, the land is locked in battle, with either side fighting for their survival.
You can play a member of the "good" team, the alliance made up of Night Elves, Gnomes, Humans, and Dwarves. Typically, they have better Player vrs Enviroment stats, while having a harder time in Player vrs Player situations. For example, Humans get a reputation bonus when doing quests. This helps a ton with professions/upgrading armor, but not so great in a battleground.
Alliance has a special class called a Paladin, they are a support class, meaning that they can tank, heal and bless other players.
The "bad guys" are the horde. They are Trolls, Orcs, Undead, and Tauren. Typicaly, they have very good PvP stats and race bonus, like the orcs have a high resist to stuns, undead can break mind control spells, etc. The special Horde class is called a shamen. They are a healing/buffing/dps class. (Speaking as an alliance player, I hate them, from the bottom of my heart.)
The special classes won't really matter in a few months, though, becuase an expansion is coming out soon, that will let alliance play as shamens, and horde play as paladins.
It's a very fun game, with a lot of challenges and things to do, even after you hit the level cap. If you have more questions, you can reach me through my profile. I'd be happy to help.

WoW is a massive multy online roll playing game, meaning: when you come online, you are in a game with more then 6.000 other ppl. you don't know all the other ppl but you can be part of a small group. that group is called a guild (call it a family)
That world is a huge place and there are several lvl area's. Meaning: when your character (the person you play with) is getting more experienced, he can go to higher lvl area's.
when you are lvl 60 (that is the max lvl you can get with a char, for now) you can go to very difficult bosses. To kill them you need 20 to 40 ppl (mostly members from the guild).
In that world there a 4 races. there is an alliance part with Night Elf's, Humans, Dwarfs and Gnomes. Night Elf's are big "human like" chreachers that live in the woods. Gnomes are cute little 'human children' like characters. In the world there are also 'horde' that is the opposite group of the alliance. The 4 races of the 'horde' are: trolls, taurens (they look like cows), undead (don't need to explain more :p) and orc (green things).
I believe these are the basics of WoW. With this information you probably have an idea what WoW is. Hope I was use full enough. if you need more info just update your question and I will edit my post then.

10 day free trial
https://login.blizzard.fileplanet.com/login.aspx?o=login&d=fileplanet&r=http%3a%2f%2fwww.fileplanet.com%2fblizzard_promotion%2fwow_raf.htm
I'm playing it now - it's okay, but I wouldn't pay for it
it's a 3rd person game where you run around an expanive varied fairytaale inspired landscape, you click on a monster to highlight it and then press 1-10 to select what you wanna do
1-Attack
2-THunderbolt
3- Heal
from a drag and drop quick menu located at the bottom of the screen
the point of the game is to gain levels, you gain levels by finding new places, killing monsters, learning new skills, etc
you join in hunting parties so you can tackle beast you never could alone
the community is very friendly, I've been playing alot of mmo's lately, and without community your just playing a poor game
if your confused and noone will answer you - you'll get frustrated
Many varieties of classes and racees to choose from, very vivid landscape - I'm playing a free trial of everquest 2 also, it's great too - but I think I would choose WoW if I had a crossbow to my head.
