You'll need to make your player region-free (which isn't always easy or even possible), or buy a region-free player. The player will also need to be able to convert the PAL signal (the video broadcast standard in Europe) to NTSC, the video broadcast standard here.

With regards to making your player region-free, see this site: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks , which lists available "hacks" for DVD players. If your DVD player can easily be hacked to make it region-free, congratulations and good luck. If not, consider spending money on a hackable one--my personal recommendation is the Philips DVP-642 (which costs $59.99-$70 at stores like Target and Best Buy), which can not only be converted to region free with a few button pushes, but can also convert PAL with the proper aspect ratio to NTSC, and it can even play downloaded DivX movies.

you may be able to play them on a european dvd player over here if you use a transformer that comverts voltage from 220 to 110
