IIRC, in California, you must have more than 150 cc's to go on the freeway. Maybe it's 125 - I'm not sure. The only ones I would take on the freeway are the 200 and 250 cc models.

You need insurance, and most auto insurance places will write you a policy. If yours won't, try Progressive.

Not sure if the age limit is 16 or 18.

You need a motorcycle license.

Most of them have automatic transmissions. The manual transmission Vespa doesn't resemble a motorcycle tranny at all. I think you change gears by rotating the left handgrip.

No, they are too weak and can't get up to highway speeds. Do yourself a favor and get a Suzuki Burgman 400/650. THOSE can rock, go over 100mph, get 50mpg, have enough storage space to do shopping trips, like food and mall, and are have fully automatic CVT transmissions so you don't have to worry about shifting ever again. They run aroun $6k-8k, but are worth way more than that in my opinion. They are highway legal and Geico has insurance for them around $15/month.
