Thanks for responding!
I totally agree with you on Costco and WalMart (even though there are no Costco's in Michigan that I know of).

But like you I want to work at a place where I can make a positive contribution to an organization.

I'm working part time while attending school full time. My graduation is December 2006!!

I am a business major at the University of Washington. The business core requires that we take several Human Resources Courses like Management.

I find it very interesting, and believe it would be a good opportunity to get a degree in this field. Getting the right people into the right jobs, and then promoting them and watching their personal growth.

Deciding on motivational programs to get managers and supervisors working together on the same team to be effective would be a lot of fun.

I bet the problems would appear when you are restricted by how management views their workers. I do not think I would like to work for any organization that just bleeds employees and treats them only as "tools" to get a job done.

Companies like Wal-Mart that pay low wages, and not provide decent wages or health coverage for workers would be a depressing enviorment for me to work in.

Busiensses that care about giving the workers a decent wage, and that promote from within would give me the most satisfaction.

A concession worker from Costco was interviewed in our local newspaper. She was a single parent with three children. In all her previous jobs she did not have enough money to buy her children school supples, or proper meals and clothing.

But working for Costco, she was able to afford all that and even take a 2 week vacation with her children. That is the kind of company I want to work for... and that is what I am setting my sites on after graduation.

I am 51 years old, and have been working for the same company for 23 years. I go to school part time, and find it fun and exciting. How about you?
