The most likely offender is cow's milk products (in baby's or mom's diet). Other things to ask yourself: is baby getting anything other than breastmilk - formula, solids (including cereal), vitamins (fluoride, iron, etc.), medications, herbal preparations? Is mom taking any medications, herbs, vitamins, iron, etc.?

There are *no* foods you should avoid until and unless you see that your baby is having a hard time with them. Spicy foods will not cause a problem; mothers in India and Mexico nurse their babies!! If your baby is having a problem with something in your diet, the most likely culprit is cow's milk. But again, unless your baby seems to have a problem, you do not need to worry about or avoid it.

My fourth child suffered terribly from reflux, and the only thing that helped was Zantac ( which, yes, they can give to babies as young as two weeks old ). His was so bad, that it didn't matter what I ate or did not eat, he had to have the medicine because he was in so much pain. Talk to your pediatrician NOW! Don't give up the breastfeeding - you can help him other ways. Breast milk is best for baby and mom.

Acid reflux is something that a baby is usually born with. If you or your husband suffer from heartburn chances are your child will suffer from it too. Just try to avoid foods that cause you gas or heartburn

Soda pop was a big one for me. Made me feel like I was having a heart attack, so I stayed away from it. To me breastfeeding isn't only good for the baby but for the Mom too. Those night breastfeeding with just my daughter alone in a rocker with only the moon shinning in, I wouldn't of given up for nothing. That was our special time. I would tell her what I wanted for her, sing to her, or just hug her, but they were so special.

There is nothing other than caffeine (and drugs) that a breast feeding woman can't eat your body processes the foods down the only thing that may happen is it may change the taste of your milk.... The only reason i avoid certain things is it gives my indigestion....

Do avoid spicy foods or anything that feel out of place for YOU because whatevr you consume the baby will taste that through your milk. I hope this helps.!!

You should stay away from tomato-based products, spicy meat like sausage, citrus fruits, soda.
You don't have to be a bland diet, but be on a balanced one. Alot of fruits, veggies, and chicken or pork. Try to stay away from beef.
