In the sequel, Return to the Blue Lagoon, the opening finds Em and Richard dead from the berries, but the baby, Paddy, is alive. (The only word he knows is Richard, so the person that cares for Paddy calls him Richard.)

ive seen the movie and read the book..though neither ever state a 100% ..some say they were cousins..because at one part in the beg. emmeline refers to richards father as an "uncle" but then some may get (which i believe)..was if i remember correctly emmelines parents died and she was adopted...either way it was the "1800's" and if they were cousins it wasnt considered bad back then...but my sister and i believe that they were adopted brother and sister

Nope they are cousins. The girls parents had dided so the boys Dad was raising her. Remember ast one point she tells him that maybe his Dad is in heaven like her parents are?
