I'm looking for music, but not in any particular genre. And no particular time period either. I'm looking for anything that's truely inspirational, something that's a complete masterpiece. Start naming bands, but not as much metal because I already listen to a lot of that. I'm looking mainly for classic (prog?) rock, underground hip-hop, and anything else cool that you can think of. Only original answers, please! Thanks in advance, and good luck to you all. Best answer = 10 points.

Ok. Here it goes...the first ever "truly" electronica band was called the Art of Noise. They had a song called "Moments in Love" that STILL haunts me to this day (try to find the remake, as the technology is better but the original is good as well) The LP is called The Best of The Art of Noise. Everyone I have ever recommended this to has been pleased. It may be a little hard to find (not sure if it is still in print), but will be worth the effort.
Want something a little different? Try Johnny Cash's American Recordings. Brillantly produced by Rick Rubin, the whole series is outstanding (most people know the remake of NIN's Hurt, but did you know he also remade Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode and Rusty Cage by Soundgarden, the latter being unbelievable!).
As far a masterpiece goes, a song I would also recommend Once in a Lifetime by the Talking Heads. A song way ahead of its time and still mezmorizing today. Also try Rollins Band Divine Object of Hatred off of the Weight CD on Imago. Anything H. Rollins touches is gold in my book (BTW, there is a LIVE cd of Rollins Band-2 disc set called The Only Way to Know For Sure, recorded live at the Metro in Chicago that rocks so much.)
I hope this helps you out.

Check out: "Time For the Sun To Rise" by Earl King
"Crime In the City" by Neil Young

The entire album, "Kiko" by Los Lobos
"I Don't Live Today" by Jimi Hendrix

I really like Tegan & Sarah (download Where Does the Good Go - to get a feel), Mogwai (take me somewhere nice for starters), Kings of Convenience (i'd rather dance w/you - is a lot of fun) , The Perishers (the whole cd is amazing)- which are very indie bands. Classic Rock - Journey is my fav.

here are a couple of bands blue october, the fray, and the john mayer trio. blue october just came out with a new cd but their old ones are just as good if not better. the lyrics go really deep but for the most part they are the truth. you will either hate them or love them. the fray is awesome! the first time i heard them i knew they were going to be big. if u haven't heard any of their songs you have to check them out. you said you were looking for classic rock try the john mayer trio it isn't classic but some of their songs sound classic and may become classics (someday).

ok. I have recently heard of the Distillers. they are a cool punk brand.
oh and I have been all about the pixies. a cool alteritive band.
what makes them so cool is that they do not always use the same lead singer. sometimes it is a boy others it is a girl.
also i know you said you are not into metal but.........the crow soundtrack is really awesome.
oh and something else that i have been into lately is MC lars. He has a song called "Roomate from hell" it makes me laugh everytime I hear it.
well i hope you like one of the things that I suggested. good luck on finding cool music.
if you find something worth sharing please email me @ iamnotliz@yahoo.com

If you haven't given Bob Dylan a chance yet, I strongly recommend his music. Not only do his lyrics blow your mind, his understanding of roots music, and use of roots style (if you're into that at all) will floor you.
He's revered for a good reason.
If he's not your style, try anything in the folk music era - there's something there for just about anyone.
