You need a new CD player, or it could just be the cord. My CD player has done the same thing, but I recommend just getting a new player all together!!:)

Try borrowing a black CD from someone and burn something and try to play it on your cd drive, then if it works it might be either the way you burn your CD's, or your useing the wrong type of CDs. IF all fails, try putting in another CD Drive, if it still doesn't work return the CD drive and try to get someone to trouble shoot your computer. Take it to geek squad at best buy. or some other computer repair place..

1. See whether there are any dust or scratches on the cd, if so try to remove them

2. Buy a lens cleaning kit (if you don't have one) and clean the lens with it.. it's normally in a cd form..

3. Check whether your player could read the type of files in your cd, for e.g., normall cd players could not read mp3 formats or dvd..

Hope this helps. good luck!

Once you write to a CD-R you can never write to it again. To be able to write again you need to use CD-RW. Even then you need to format the disk before you can record to it again. And storing both data and music on the same disk is nnpt good, a dsik formatted for music will not store data, and a disk set to store data can not record music cleanly enough to platy correctly.

Maybe it happened that the lens of your CD player got dirty. what you can do is to buy a lens cleaner CD and run it. otherwise if you can open your CD player just open it and clean lens with some soft material like tissue. but beware lens is a very sensitive thing

Well it depends from the age of the machine and/or how much it has been used. The laser pick up has a limited life and, as we used for the needles on a turntable, it needs to be replaced.
Another possible reason could be a damaged track at the beginning.
