Start out subtle and gentle, try tongue gently and if she responds move on from there. If she doesn't - go back to the gentle subtlety.
That way, no matter what she's into, she won't reel back with a cry of "Ewwwwwwwwww".

Essentially it depends on the girl ... I like kisses that on the more subtle side, but gentle may not be the right word. At the same time - tonsil hockey is kind of gross.
