no, he had a very good offensive line, but he would have been better if he ran more north and south, gain a constant 4 yards a play, instead he would gain 7 lose 2 etc.....

Barry Sanders was incredible especially on such bad Lions teams. But if you ever saw Jim Brown run he would make a believer out of you. This man could run over you, around you, and carry 3 or 4 of you for a very long way. Fast, big and with an attitude. He combined Larry Csonka bullishness with Gale Sayers moves and speed. Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Franco Harris, Eric Dickerson, O.J. Simpson all outstanding runners, But Jim Brown was the greatest!!

Jim Brown is the best. Did what he did in a 12 game season, before the passing game became a big part of the offense. Sanders is a firm No. 2.

Barry Sanders' own father told him that Jim Brown was the greatest running back of all-time.

I'll agree. He was quick, could turn on a dime and had power as well. Unfortunately, he was in a run & shoot offense with a poor O-line and therefore did not have the blocking that other great RB's had.
Plus he was not a show off. After he scored he usually handed the ball to the official and trotted back to his bench like he'd scored before - very professional.

I think so, but he probably won't be recognized as such since he played for such a crappy team all those years.

Imagine what he'd have done if he had Emmitt Smith's offensive line throughout the 90's.

You could make an argument for him, but there are so many greats from each era that would be just as merited. Brown, Sayers, Payton and etc.

I wouldn't say THE best, but definitely up there. The best depends on your criteria.

Best with a bad offensive line, best east/west runner, etc...
