In parts of the world, pedophiles are castrated.
How about if we just put them on island at least, so that our innocent children can be safe?
Peter Whitmore has been in and out of jail forever, leaving a trail of victims, and Canada can't seem to keep in jail because of lax laws.
When it comes to pedo's, there shouldn't be any understanding, or laws to protect them, only that it will happen again, when one time is too much.
What should be done with these diseased people (as much as I hate to call them that)?

Rehabilitated.

Horrific punishments are just vengeance, there should no place for that in a civilized society.

If your definition of "pedophile' is someone that has forced anal intercouse with a child, they really are a bunch of S.O.B.s. Poor kid. It consider it a form of assuault and that crime should get the appropiate jail time. Castration makes you guilty of a horrible form of assault, so you're not better. Let them cool in the slammer for a few years. That's quite a penance. Should be enough punishment. If they do it again, however, there should be the threat of castration. Still, castration is a horrible thing to do to somebody. And there's no guarantee that they still wouldn't assault children some other way. I dont like pedo's either. Sick bunch of sorry creeps.

This is something that has come up in conversations over and over again in the past few years with certain folks that I know at times when the talk comes full circle to the problem presented by these malicious individuals----and I finally heard the solution that I felt best served some three months ago in a heavy duty round table discussion at a local coffee shop

Pedophiles that have been convicted in a fair and just trial should have to serve a term of two years in a maximun secuity prison---then summarily turned over to the justice of the family that was effected by their malicious behavior----that way the individual that did the criminal act would have a full two years to think about what might be in the offing for them--especially when they know what they did and how people truly feel about it----also the family would have two years to consider the justice they would seek and how they would proceed---it would be enough time for them to weigh out what the justice would be---modify and deal with all the attached feelings about it and ect----so it would be a two year buffer zone for all parties---one weighing what was on it's way for them---the others how they were going to proceed and how they were going to cope with it all-----sounds emaculately fair to me !!!!!!!

I think pedophiles should be completely removed from society. Anyone that victimizes a child should be dealt with harshly and our laws fail children daily. I agree with castration but also know this will not remove the impulse. I do not believe they can be "rehabilitated" and think the therapy they get should be given freely to the children who are victimized. There was a point I didn't believe in the death penalty, but then I became a mom and I know I would kill anyone who hurt my child. Don't make tax payers support these sick-os - just completely remove them from society. Harsh laws can be a deterrent. Why should we protect criminals from cruel and unusual punishment when that is what they subject their victims too? If government chooses to enforce this protection it should do so in action and deed.

While I agree the crime is disturbing and beyond imagination in the suffering it causes...pedophiles are people too...
They have a disease...an obsession maybe even...
There are drugs that can help, and therapy...there are laws for punishment...
Not all of them can be rehabilitated or cured or treated or whatever you want to call it...but some can...
We have laws in America about cruel and unusual punishment...
castration would fall under both of those categories...

I think that Castration is in order...however, there is always the fear that pedophiles would just start to kill the kids to keep them quiet. I don't know. But I will tell you that laws DEFIANTLY need to strengthen. Jessica's Law also needs to be passed in every state.Named in memory of Jessica Lunsford, who was abducted and sexually assaulted before being brutally murdered, "Jessica's Law" refers to the Jessica Lunsford Act passed in Florida which mandates a minimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison for first-time child sex offenders. currently Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Hawaii, Tennessee, Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine are NOT passing Laws like these. If you live in these States , CALL YOUR SENATE AND CONGRESS!!! Help us protect children!!!!!

The sentence/treatment needs to match the offense. Imagine two different pedophiles . . .
1) Man exposes himself on one occasion to a teenage girl, is remorseful, and willing to cooperate in psychotherapy.
2) Man anally rapes several preschool boys and girls, no remorse, no admission of guilt.

In the former case, therapy and probation should be the treatment. In the latter case, a long-term prison sentence and castration would seem to the best option.

Simple answer, They should be castrated and then imprisoned in a Maximum Security prison for the term of their Natural Life. NO exceptions. In other word's, If you do this, the community will do that!! They would soon get the picture!!

kept in jail for life. it has been proven over and over again that they will never be 'cured'. can never be redeemed. especially that sick freak who got like 1 1/2 years at a time for what he did. they need stiffer laws for these people that mess up the lives of the kids that they hurt. take a life. lose yours.

castrations wont work because the sickness is in the head.

I say they should cut off their balls and fry them in chicken grease and be forced to eat them. Or just put an end to their life (if it's proven that they committed such an act) so we don't waste time and money on the people. Also, the same for rapists. If there's iron clad proof, end it right there. And same goes for murderers. We'd save so much money. But unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to tell who did what and if they are really guilty. But if it's no doubt... I say get rid of them.

Difficult situation, huh?
I sure don't know how to end the atrocious illnesses that plague our societies - seems that no one has figured out how to, since the beginning of recorded history. . .

You folks who wish for vengeance (castration/prison) should be put on some island together - there is no reason for this in a civilized society. . . frustration is no justification. . .
