It is probably a more realistic representation of life in the frontier west than most other Westerns.

Note than many of the characters may be real but they almost all are quite different than their historical namesakes.

This is rather embarrassing. My father (who is turning 80 next spring) Really swears like that. No joke. When he get worked up over something words come out that make your ears want to turn inside out. South Dakota is extremely beautiful. I grew up in MN. I've never been to Deadwood, but I have been to old fur trading posts, and logging communities. It looks accurate.

My husband and I love that show. It is actually very accurate in terms of the places and characters. All the characters actually existed. The plots are changed around for entertainment but it explains it all in the bonus features on the seasonal dvd's.

i couldn't tell you as i've never been there in that time period however i have heard it's pretty acurate. but the real deadwood is actually a really beautiful place. if you are ever in south dakota it is a nice stop. it is very scenic, and has gambling still and such. as well as it is close to all the "tourist" things such as mt rushmore, crazy horse, and flintstone park.
