people are constantly making comments about how skinny I am, such as: "eat some cake before you die!", or "wow are you skinny!", even though I eat a lot, and just have a high metabolism. I was fed up with the skinny jokes and posted a question about fat people and why do they let themselves get so big and disgusting. Why is it ok for people to say crap to me about being skinny, but ohhhh GOD FORBID I insult the fat population and as soon as I do I get all kinds of nasty responses? Why do fat people think it's ok to say all kinds of stuff to skinny people and then get nasty and immature when faced with the hard truth about themselves?

I think it's more of a jealousy thing when a person comments about a skinny person. People think it's all right because it's not really an insult to be jealous. It is an insult to be disgusted. Just try to think that most people who say stuff like that want to be like you and that's why they say that. I know that it sucks, and it IS very wrong, but some people just can't help but try to bring you down if they feel inferior to you. Remember that the more you let them get to you, the more they win.

It is not OK to make fun of skinny people OR fat people. If the fat people react to being insulted more quickly than you think is correct consider this...Society on the whole is oriented to being young and thin. Zillions of $$$ are spent chasing those two traits and those who are even moderately overweight are less likely to get hired, promoted etc. The motto is "you can never be too rich or too thin" and so we have loads of young and not so young people ( still mostly women) who have become anorexics and bulimics. People that make remarks about how thin you are probable envy you.

Because heavy people are becoming the norm because of their population. Heavy people are becoming the majority--and people usually think the most common is most normal. I forget how many people in the USA are overweight, but there's a lot. Being one of the extreme, too fat or too skinny, tends to be a problem, but unless you're taking good care of yourself and make sure you eat properly, there's nothing wrong with being either.

Although what you say how some truth to it, why are you so concern about what people think anyway?

It seems as though skinny is what everyone wants to be. When your not, you may feel very insecure around people who are. This kind of joking may be the only way obese people can cope. It could be seen kind of like reverse discrimination. I'm not sure if obese people are a majority in America but there is a substantial amount. As a majority you discriminate against the minority, but it is very rude and unheard of if a minority discriminates against a majority.

You accidentally played into a very sensitive area...and I understand your logic...but let's face it...it isn't right to make fun of anybody...and you know how it feels...so you have to rise above the situation...and defend yourself in a better way...mostly by telling them how it feels to you.

Weight is a sensitive issue; and there is a lot more prejudice toward heavier people. In a strange quirk of irony, they wish they had your problem...so it is the same as telling you, "I'd trade places with you in a heartbeat." There are many who struggle with the weight issue on a day-to-day basis...and can't relate to someone who doesn't have this problem...so think of it as a back-handed compliment and don't spend too much time dwelling on it.

You are a mouthy girl. It is not ok for people to insult others on the basis of their appearance, be it skinny, fat, inbetween. Yet you seem content to do so toward people who are not "skinny" like you. You actually think you are doing these individuals a favor? I can tell you from being overweight, nobody needs to be reminded of the difficulties in being fat, a problem that you seem to have an issue with oversimplifying. I have been very overweight, I have been very fit in my life- I know both sides of the coin, and judging by your response on the last question, you have not had these experiences.

Nasty and immature? Take a moment to think about the attitude that you are conveying with the sarcasm in your question. Perhaps you are overlooking the fact that when you insult people whether they are fat or not, that it is offensive and makes you appear to be even more ignorant than people might have thought.

If you dont like being criticized for how you look, what makes you think that other people would like it? Do you understand?

If you dont want nasty responses dont post nasty questions. It is that simple. Who needs someone to point out a "hard truth" when most people are aware of it on a daily basis when looking in the mirror? You arent doing anyone any favors or helping with your assessments.

Take some advice: stop provoking people and your life will be much better. Learn to keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself unless you are asked. Also, making blanket statements about people will only serve to earn you enemies.

Did you learn something here today? Hopefully you did.

Come on now thats just sillyness. You cant be offended by being called skinny and if you want to make fun of fat people than do it. Sure it goes against the grain a little bit, but its not against the law. So next time someone says eat something skinny say "Hey fatty get off my back you weight to much!"

First, people that slander other people are at the bottom rung of decency on the human ladder and they are the pigs in their squalor, oinking from the pigsty.

You only do injustice to your self when you react to oinks from the pig pen! You know who you are and you have your own self worth.

Not one of the oinks effect your bank account, determines who will be your spouse, where you will live, what type of work you do, your education level, the quality of your life!

They are only vibrations in air that are quickly dissipates in the wind!

Do not go into the pig pen by degrading any one for any reason,
lest you become a pig, oinking, with other pigs!

I dunno if you've just ignored this, but haven't you noticed that fat people are made fun of all the time?! Seriously! God, it's like the number one stereotype for the rest of the world to make on people from the US! Ask any European what they think of the states and their answer typically is, "aren't they a bunch of fatties?"

If it is any consolation, of all the people that made fun of me for being really fat in highschool, I never made fun of any skinny people. All I did was lose the weight. Now those same people have nothing to say. I suppose that means that was all they had to say.
