Which is better for new cabinets?

Daughter has a new home, and we stained the cabinets ourselves to save money, and they look great, but my ? is, which is better to seal the finish with, tongue oil, or polyurethane?

i used three coats of water based poly on stairs and they look great years later.

I personally like tongue oil, we used it on a break front and its holding up great. the kids leave glass's on it all the time and the finish looks like new.
