of course we are. Look how many on here are apologist and seem to blame the USA for anything and everything in the world, when the enemy has made themselves known, has gone as far as a formal declaration of war against the USA, many years before Bush that was, and yet, they cannot even bring themselves to acknowledge that we were attacked on 9/11.
We will be worse for our lack of backbone in fighting this worldwide.

Its more insidious then that. We don't ignore as a natural course. We ignore when it isn't conveniant to recognize, for whatever reason. Read your history books! We got into the second world war and just barely. Weeks before Pearl Harbor, our Congress was still voting to stay out of the fray. I can understand that we as a people, as a nation, are forgiving and tolerant. We as a group have turned the other cheek more then once. In our sea to shining sea isolation we tend to get complacent with the world around us. Politically, the danger and its denial is being used to sell us on everything under the sun, one way or the other. The Rep. want to keep power, the Dems want to take it back, and we're caught in the middle, and not getting the truth. Who ever thought a nation could climax in a fit of rage that would be culpable of holocaust and genocide the likes of what Germany did. Heck, some still deny it today! They ignore by choice. We are facing something that will not go away. No matter how much we feign its reality, ignore its evidence and deny the consequences. Keep dreaming and looking at the world through rose colored glasses!

Dangers can be over-estimated just as much as they can be under-estimated. That's why political and military leaders need accurate, unskewed intelligence.
According to GW, potential dangers can be 'misunder-estimated' too! That will probably involve a whole seperate department and a secret budget!
Back to 1939; very little could have been done to stop Hitler's advance through Western Europe at the start of the war, regardless of who saw what was coming or not. Time and resources were not enough.
It wasn't until he opened the war on 2 fronts out of the blue, by chosing to delay a further push into Britain and deciding to turn instead on Russia - both for oil and just for the hell of it - that his fundamental weaknesses began to show.
There's no harm in hoping for and working toward peace. Being ready if there's no other choice but war; that's the real trick!

Remember, there was a lot else happening at the time. Everyone was was the tail end of the depression, and countries like Germany and the east block were in a runaway depression where they were reprinting money every two weeks. Russia was trying to find its footing, while other countries worried about it. Also, there was a great deal of favoritism toward fascism while German Jews favored socialism and communism. And no, true communism is not godless, it is a social economic structure. Limbergh favored fascism and backed Hitler.

We ought to take pre-emptive strikes against our enemies, particularly Iran and Korea. I don't know about you, but if I hear a head of a state (Ahmanijad) saying that he will wipe Israel off the face of the earth, and has threatened the U.S. and other countries, I would believe him.
Had the world took pre-emptive measures against Hitler, who was threatening to conquer countries, and in fact, did conquer them, we could have avoided the Holocaust, and WWII.
It is time for America and the rest of the civilized world to wake up and recognize the danger of the Islamic extremists who are leading several countries.
For those who believe that the extremist element in Islam is small, the numbers are staggering. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in this world. Lets take a very liberal view that only a very small percentage of Muslims are exterme, while the rest of the Muslim world is very peaceful. So if only 10% of Muslims have extreme point of views, and may be a threat, and must be dealt with, meaning dealing with 120 million Muslims! How about 1%? Then you must deal with 12 million Muslims. How about 1/10 of a percent? Then you must deal with 1.2 million Muslims. The numbers are staggering! How do you propose dealing with even the "very low" figures of 1.2 million Muslim extremists?
I am sick and tired of hearing from Muslims that Islam is such a "peaceful religion."(!) Well, thank Allah Islam is such a "peaceful religion". Can you imagine if it weren't??!

Not the same mistake, the people crying "peace, peace" are ignored in the present time and were ignored before the gulf war. The mistake would be realizing too late what the true dangers are, not any reluctance to use force.

Are you kidding? Hitler wanted land, land, and more land. Hitler waged a war against all of Europe for the sake of Europe. ALL of the Middle East want Israel out of the Middle East. It's one versus all.
Another thing, people who are waging a "holy war" are minor in compared to all of Germany, plus, after what has happened in Germany, more people are watching for any similar signs of another Hitler.
It was Hitler and Hitler only. There are too many leaders in the Middle East, and each has their own sect and/or group, which is why there is a civil war in Iraq (Shiites and....can't remember the other group).
Finally, Hitler wanted the world. The Middle East wants America to leave them alone, and I can understand in some occasions. We liberated Iraq, but we won't leave, and you know we are still there because of oil. I don't remember the Middle East leaders saying much when we went after bin Laden, but was pissed when we decided to go into Iraq.

Yes, we have been ignoring a lot of the world's ills since WWII. The massacres in Somalia, Rwanda, and Sudan are the result. They won't be the last.
The cold war put a huge schism between people, governments, and war. People weren't really part of the equation in that particular brand of war, other than as casualty estimates. But they couldn't fight it. They had to hand over the power to fight to a larger government capable of manufacturing and deploying weapons of mass destruction.
The world has since changed, but the people haven't. Right now we face only regional conflicts, but should a larger outbreak occur, we seem ill-suited to fight a WWII style war.
While I believe those with the greatest manufacturing capability (capital, labor) will eventually be victorious, as they usually are, I wouldn't be surpirsed if the death-toll in the meantime wasn't even higher than WWII.

I agree, I am amazed that given what has happened to the Jewish people for the last 60 plus years (And through history) that people still have a problem with Israel defending themselves! No one knows about racism or oppression more than the Israelis, however in the world today they are always in the wrong somehow. I think that it goes to show the enormous double standard in the world today, and I hope that they finish off Hezbollah before the cease fire.

I don't see us as ignoring the Islamo-facist threat, but many in our country would like to see the USA reason with the terrorists, it just cannot be done.
You cannot reason with people who have been brainwashed, they don't even know why they hate the USA and Israel, they just do.
The terrorist faction Hezbollah was not addressed for their murderous actions in Beruit in 1983, which resulted in emboldening their actions. They developed the mistaken idea that the USA would not retaliate, but would try to talk to them and bribe them in the same fashion that Yassar Arafat was handled. It made ole Yassar rich, he didn't do anything to help his people.
Look at Europe, many of their countries have had terrorist attacks by Islamo-facists and yet they sleep and once again try to placate an unreasoning enemy instead of addressing the fanatics in the proper manner. They also try to place fault on the Israelis for over defending themselves. That is impossible, Hezbollah and its puppet master have both said that their goal is to destroy Israel and kill all of the Jews. There is no such concept as "over defending" when the enemy attacks and declares that total destruction is their goal.
Our government is awake, but it still allows political correctness to thwart common sense.
