It all depends on the shape of your... er... parts. (Sorry, I don't want to sound lewd.)
Some women can pee standing up and it'll just go straight down in a perfectly straight streat. Some women it goes a bit forward but still a good stream.
Some women always get a bit running down their legs.
Some women just spray all over the place (I think these are the real annoying ones that make public bathrooms so messy).
Try peeing standing up in the shower sometime. It won't hurt anything. Just be sure to finish your pee or there's a small chance you could get an infection.
By the way, the previous answerer who said you can get an infection just from peeing standing... he/she is wrong. You can empty your bladder standing up.
Fun fact: You can learn to pee standing up without making a mess. Use your index and middle finger (like a "peace" sign) to spread your labia and pull up slightly, so that the pee has a clear path from your urethra (pee hole). With a little bit of practice you can pee standing even better than a man. I kid you not! Women have shorter plumbing than men, so you can pee farther!

This method should keep all liquid away from your pants and shoes.

Actually it can be really bad for you- medically. It's a pretty funny thing to try, but we are designed to sit down so that our bladders completely empty. If we don't totally empty our bladders when we pee we can trap bacteria and end up with really bad infections. Ewww!!!! Yay for the toilet seat- I say! :-)
