is there anything that i can do to clear the history of bad credit faster now that it is all paid?
or are there people out there who will lend to people with past defaults?

Well.... it takes a lifetime to build good credit and a second to destroy it all...... I think you're on the right road to a much less-stressful life. Take advantage of a credit card offer (I'm sure you get them) and make VERY small charges - even charge $10 - the secret is to pay it off.....

Pretend you don't have a card for now - but use it sparingly - just to charge a couple of small items that you already have the money for - when you get the bill (not before), pay it all immediately. Credit is made, not by the amount - but the fact that you paid the For a very few months - of charging $50 a month - and paying it off will build credit quickly.

Also get a copy of your credit report and make sure there's nothing outstanding on it. I've checked mine and there was lots of old stuff on there. It will take a little time but be patient. People don't realize how important credit is - until they don't have it.

There are lenders who will lend to you. It will usually involve higher interest rates and sometimes weekly payments such as car dealers. There are also credit cards you can get but you should only get one if you can control your spending.
