The World Trade center was a network of buildings. In addition to many of the expected subterranean structures (parking, basements, utilities, sewage), there was also a subway station beneath the center. When the towers began to collapse, the resulting damage might have created damage to the foundations of the building referred to as wtc7, resulting in that building's collapse as well.

Buildings, particularly high-rise buildings, are marvels of engineering, because they should be (and were before this century) impossible. Gravity, wind, the pressure of the building's own weight should all cause a building to collapse. Recent building demolitions have been accomplished with as little as 5lbs. of explosive charges placed in strategic points. It is these principals which Bin Laden was trying to exploit with the van loaded with explosives which was detonated in the parking structure in the 1990s.

There are plenty of conspiracy theories around that one. I have to admit some of them are very convincing, All the video indicates implosion. Interestingly, the SEC and IRS had important offices there. I know the loss of the IRS office was a big problem to me as it was where my father's estate was filed, and all the paper-work had to be redone and additional taxes paid.

I was only a little paranoid before 9/11. 7WTC didn't help. Other buildings near the main plaza also suffered extensive damage, so certainly the shear force of the big towers going down was enough to cause signficant damage to the surrounding areas. But they way that one came down . . .

Because the equivalent of a small nuclear bomb fell right next to it. The two main towers that fell shook the whole ground of NYC, and we even experienced an aftershock from it.

The explosions rocked the building and weakened it, causing it to collapse.

Have a lovely rest of the evening.
