I'm 17 and my girlfriend loves to dance (and is good) however I've never danced before. Experience = 0. She tells me I have rhythm and that I believe (used to play an instrument, I'm often taping to music), she tells me I have control over my body (a gentlemen never speaks of what happens in the bedroom), however what I don't know is WHAT to do... If I knew what moves to do I could practise them, but until I know them I can't even practise.

If you answer at least include one or more of these, if not I will report you for not answering the question:

a/ Do you know any dance moves that you can try and explain? Body, legs or arms, seriously pretty much anything would help, the basics... Have you seen the film "Hitch"? I need more advice like that ^^

b/ Do you know of a website (other than bust a move) that might have what I'm looking for?

Don't just say:
"Move to the music"
"Feel the music"
"Just enjoy"
"You have a mental block" (false)

I know all this,
Thank you,
Bobly

Try this at home:

get yourself some music with 4 counts (you say you tap to beat so youprobably know what it is)
I.e. the one where you can identfy the strongest beat as "1" and afet that you find 3 more beats and then the strongest come again.

Try this simple thing for me: Stand still (but don't stiffen up your knees) Bend your knees and get ready. Straigten them on "1", bend on "2", straight on "3", bend on "4". Does this work at all?
It probably looks and feels stiff. Let your butt stick out a little when you come up on "1' and "3"

Modify this move: till now, you were holding your weight equally on both legs (you were "split-weight", as dancers say). Now try bringing you weight on the left foot (i.e. stand on both feet in such a way that you could lift you right foot of the floor if you wanted to)
Try the move above while your weight is always on the left foot.
In this case your right foot is called free foot.

Try the same with the right side.

Now change sides on every "1" and "3".

Does this resemble dancing?

Hopefully, a little.

If you're happy so far, try to be creative. Try lifting up free foot and pretend you are kicking something while continuing to do the exwersise 2.

I know it all sounds retarded, but this is how I learned when I was 15. I had the same problem, and i was the only girl in the class who's like this. I tried this at home, it lloked kinda not quite right. I went to the dance and watches the people - what are they doing differently. Tried again. I know how it feels when people say "just move to music" - feels like failure. I'm a dancer now and I still can't stand it when my coach tells it to me. I need to be explained how to do it.

Did that help at all. I dunno. Videos might be better, but I've never seen training videos for club dancing.

Sadly, all the advice I can give is DDR. DDR is Dance Dance Revolution. It's an arcade game and a very well thought out one. You have four arrows, up, down, left, right, and you hit each when they match up in a frame on the screen. The arrows go with the music, so if you at least play this game a little your sense of beats and music patterns will increase therefore you may have a better chance of being able to "move to the music" and making your own little dance moves. Also, check out this video called "The Evolution Of Dance":

;D Good luck.

Move your @$$. No, seriously- everything else just seems to follow, and if you can get that snake/bellydancing/etc. thing going on, it's totally sexy. The coolest thing, though, is being uninhibited. Pretend to know what you're doing, and it's definitely attractive. If you're dancing with your girlfriend and she's cool with it, pull her in really close and move the same way she does. It takes getting used to, but if you move well, gentleman *smirk*, you'll find what you're comfortable with. Plus, all songs have a repeated beat. Find a sequence of movements you like and just repeat! Best of luck!

P.S. In response to the previous answer: does that really work? My boyfriend is unbelievable at DDR and he still looks like a fish out of water on the dance floor. Maybe it varies from person to person.

what some music videos and when you get to the club tell your girlfriend that you just wanna sit for a few minutes to check out the other guys and how they are dancing. if you have rhythm then you should pick up on it quickly.

you can always ask your friends or your girlfriend

You can't teach a dance step in writing unless your an experienced one (but as you said, you're not). What I can suggest you is to enroll at a dance studio or class. You'll enjoy it and you'll be more than satisfied, because you can dance with her as often as you both want. Imagine the fun and moments you'll be spending together. Hope I helped you and be happy.

just stand there and follow her lead. i know when i go out dancing that is generally what my bf does. he never figures out i can work up a sweat and he doesn't till i point out all he did was shuffle back and forth like a white boy (no offense but i've yet to meet a white man that can dance). besides look at how many other men go to the club and let thier girl dance up on em....you won't be the only one.

In answer to your question, I believe that your statement
>>>If you answer at least include one or more of these, if not I will report you for not answering the question:<<< is really offensive. I'd love to answer your question, but you've written an abusive and threatening statement in your question. Personaly, I don't believe your question deserves an answer, simply because of the mean spirited nature in which you've chosen to phrase your question.

Your girlfriend deserves better... and I hope she finds a new boyfriend very soon.

move your body. if you have rythm and know the beat to the music, your body movement will match the beat and BAM thats dancing. move your hips side to side and move your butt while you dance, i think itll all just come along, plus... if its clubbing, thats all youll need to do... move your butt and your hips. the rest leave to your girl. and maybe raise you arms while you move your butt and your hips.

Move to the music, feel the music, and just enoy it.

Seriously dude, it's dancing. If it hurts that bad, then don't...
