why do men play video games?

Let's face it, most men have short attention spans. TV and video games seem to have a different effect though where attention spans are concerned. There is the constant scroll of the TV screen or computer screen, but you can't tell it visually unless you're close up or the screen is tilted. It's more subconscious & takes a different form of concentration. I think that's why most guys are addicted to them and TV.

Firstly, not all men play video games, and lots of women play video games too, so your question stinks of rancid sexism from the outset...

The reason that _anyone_ plays video games is much the same reason that someone might read a book, or watch a movie - it's escapism, it's entertainment. There's also an element of competition too, and lots of people like that - if they didn't then why would sport be so popular?!

same reason women do. It can be challenging and entertaining. I am a female gamer. I don't neglect my home or family, nor does my husband. Video games take people away from reality and for me its a good way for me to relax after a long day..Its safe, relaxing, fun and you can do it in the comfort of your own home,, Whats so wrong about that? I understand that females want more attention than a man can give when they are involved in a video game. But if you took the time for a second to get involved and play a game with him, you might be able to see things from his perspective and trust me, he'll love the fact that you are interested in somthing that he enjoys..

That's a good question. I guess in many ways, we still enjoy the things we did as a kid. Men have a responsibility on their shoulders. You know it's true, because if a women doesn't work and let's her husband support her, it's considered normal. However, if a man didn't work and let his wife support him, he'd be a bum. I'm not contesting that, I think that's how it should be. A man should be responsible and caring. It's just that, we're all young at heart, and some times it's a relief to go back to things we enjoyed in a simpler time.

Just a side note, I know a few girls that play video games as well. Although not as many as the guys I know. Go figure.

focus, attention getting (lots of colors and flashy stuff), short or small goals leading to a bigger goal, a feeling of accomplishment when you make a level or get the item, and most importantly video games dont whine or complain J/K its that they are made for guys actually with logical progression and a defined nemisis and clear rules and actions. i think there might be a lesson in there somewhere for the ladies but not going to wax poetically on why games are a window into the soul or some crap like that.

They give me a challenge, but also give me time to relax. There's a game out there for each person. And, I'm also love thrills, and there's a lot of video games out there that give me that. They allow people to do things that they can't do in real life. Gaming just gives me time to get my mind of all the stress of school and everything, and just let me go into my own world.
