Maybe he likes the way the paint feels on his whatnots when the artists are painting him?

Having been a nude art model, I can tell you that what you describe is considered impolite. It will also get you not asked back to the next studio session, or asked only to clothed sessions, or even fired on the spot.
When doing nude modeling, you are expected to be professional. This would include being in control of your emotions to prevent such a thing from happening.
It was not usually a problem for me, since most all of the students doing the paintings or drawings were female and I am a gay male. If such a problem did come up [I couldn't resist that pun], I thought of cold showers or disgusting biological things and resolved the situation.

I think it would be totally unique. Why should we always paint pictures of humans looking the same all of the time. Part of life is when a man is having a erection. Why hide the beauty of being a man. Afterall if it wasn't for that erection we wouldn't beable to appreciate the beauty of evolution.

I don't think that could be judged as impolite...it is nature. Seems to me the person interested in painting a nude would be very comfortable with the human form in any state.

An erection is nature, not etiquette. The behavior of the model in general would be of greatest concern I would think.

Well think of it in this fashion; you're giving the artist inspiration in a artistic value. Keep it up; literally and frugally.

not polite, but not always avoidable. Let him calm down before he poses.
