We just cut a piece off and squeeze the aloe directly onto our skin.

Cut a piece off the plant and squeeze the stuff out, applying it to a burn or scratch.

you could always slice the aloe vera piece in half and just rub on skin

The gel is inside it. you just break off a piece and there it is.
