I am watching the new dvd release of Star Wars (the first film made) which is episode IV. I don't remember Jabba the Hut being in the original filming in the 70's which I grew up watching. The new version, however, has new graphics, etc. Was Jabba added when they re-released on dvd?

jabba the hur was origonally in a new hope (they used an actor as a stand in) but the scene was cut until the special edition where they but it back in and super imposed a cgi jabba over the actor stand in

He debuted in Return of the Jedi. George Lucus added him to the rerelease of the original Star Wars.

He doesn't appear until Return of the Jedi. He was not in any of the first two movies, A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back.

Yes it was added.

In the original film they wanted a normal actor played Jabba but it was silly so George Lucas added it in the new version.
