What is the hardest part of a vegetable to eat?
- THE WHEELCHAIR !

For people like Terri Shiavo who have suffered permaent brain damage, Cerebal Palsy and neurological trama that have left them as nothing more than husks of people who can't do anything at all accept sit in a chair and drool on themselves - is it a waste of resources and inhumane to keep them alive?

Frankly, I don't see the point of keeping them alive accept to keep people in Special education (severely handicapped) in a paying job.
What is the point of keeping these people alive when they can't even change their own diapers? They are nothing more than living dead.

I don't mean that in an inhumae way..but the fact is, while they look "alive" they are not. They are forced by us to stay alive using machines and tubes.

Why can't we take this a step further and abort fetuses that show signs of severe deformity and maldevelopment.

Its not God creating these people..its horny sex and gene mutations.

I think your right. In certain cases, we are wasting money and resources on severely handicapped people who are for the most part not even conscious of their situations.

Abort fetuses with handicaps? THE NEO CONS WILL NEVER GO FOR THAT !

Do you recommend those with an intelectual disability (psychological retardation) or those with a psychological ailment. reckoning on the point of psychological retardation some can definitely artwork and income society, ok they could in basic terms be doing some thing this is easy and habitual like production unit artwork, washing dishes, stacking cabinets etc yet they're doing some thing. in the experience that your speaking approximately those with a psychological ailment then undergo in techniques that till now they began affected by reported ailments they have been possibly doing some thing which grew to become into reaping benefits society. additionally some those with melancholy are particularly unable to artwork. there's a distinction between being depressed and affected by melancholy. It additionally often is going plenty deeper than super auntie edna at present died. additionally regardless of if a man or woman isn't waiting to hold down a activity and does not look reaping benefits society they could be the guy at the back of the curtain who helps the guy who's doing some thing sturdy or maybe super. they could be the muse for somebody and the 'wind below somebody's wings' -

in short you make a good point. but who gets to say at what level a person is euthanised?
a judge, the doctor, the family? all three?
i'd say all three have to agree to the termination of life. for anyone who is so bad they have no prospect of recovery and no meaningful quality of life.
if a dog or other animal was in the same state it would be considered inhumane to keep the animal alive, so why does that not apply to humans?
afterall our life span is generally longer than most animals and the potential suffering as a result is tragicaly longer.
i'm sorry to say i don't know who "Terri Shiavo" is but it would be down to the family friends and him/her to decide what is best.
forcing someone to stay alive when clearly the best thing to do to end the indignity and the suffering is to let them gois just ethicaly and moraly wrong in my opinion.

if it can be proved beyond all doubt that the unborn infant is going to be sevearly disabled and would require around the clock care 24/7 and could not do anything axcept breath unaided that includes being unable to learn to comunicate, then i'm sorry to say that in that instance then yes the pregnancy should be terminated.

as for the joke not all wheel chair users are vegetables. i know you are not or don't appear to be saying that they all are. but i find that joke offensive.

just my opinion.

oh and are we wasting our money only in the most terminal cases as specified above. anyone who can still comunicate and has a working brain can still be a productive member of society, but as i said there are a few people who it would be better to let die peacefully.

If they're totally brain dead and all they are is a organic machine that only lives because we force them then they should be let go. But there's no good in killing people who are simply mentally retarded who actually have thoughts. It's not like it's contagious. And they already pick and choose fetuses when a couple is infertile and all that invetiro(sp?) junk, they check and see if the fetus is normal. But we don't want to get into a Gattaca-like situation where everybody is totally perfect, mutations exist for the development of the species.

Alright, I'LL SAY IT: Dude, YOU'RE RIGHT!! You've just reminded me to write a will that outlines this exact eventuality. If I ever become a vegetable I want someone to "pull the plug" on me. But you gotta do it QUICK.

I've seen my grandfather die like that and even though it's not pretty, keeping them alive in the condition that they were in would've been worse, and my grandfather would've been the one to tell me to pull the plug. The same goes with INCURABLE diseases like cancer and AIDS. If I ever get that, I'll give MYSELF the lethal injection.

Another thing: How do WE know that these people WANT to stay alive like this?? They're not part of society, because society won't let them be a part of it. Let me ask everyone reading this Q&A, What would YOU do if you see someone mentally retarded or autistic on the street?? Do YOU even acknowledge them?? I rest my case.

Sometimes, yea it is inhuman. Like life support. Dude, let them go on right? But then, who are we to play God with other people's lives? My uncle is mentally challenged. But hey he's the sweetest guy you'll ever meet in your life. One of my grandmother's friends has a retarded son, because he didn't have enough oxygen when he was born. He might seem like he can't understand but he has feelings, he's a hard worker, and he's smart.

No human has the right to play god and decides who lives and who dies.

You didn't have to claim that you didn't mean to be "inhumane" by voicing out your opinion, your lame joke said it all.

Cheer up, I'm somehow feeling you'll get your wish should you become a vegetable one day. Maybe they'll even throw in the joke too.

Your inappropriate and tasteless joke in the beginning completely ruined what could have been an interesting and topical discussion.

I'll be honest.
I didn't take the time to read your whole rant as I am extremely lazy.
However, the joke about the vegetable made me chuckle.
