When e-mailing a person from the past, (like an ex or an old best friend-someone of importance), does it sound to eager to write to the person the same day from receiving a message from them, especially if it took that person two days to write back to you? Does it matter, or does it sound desperate?

I'm happy to hear that you got a response (if it is the old friend that you previously asked about). I think it would be fine to write back right away, but I would try to keep the response to like a paragraph or so. There's no need to tell what has happened in the last year all at once, you might find that you won't have as much to talk about in the future if you tell everything right now. I am just telling you what I learned from my experience. Please don't be disappointed if you get shorter responses from him, just be glad that he is writing back to you. Nobody MADE him respond to your e-mail! Take that as a good sign. He WANTED to talk to you. Even if he sends back one sentence, once a week for the rest of your life, that is a heck of a lot better than the nothingness of the last year. I know you are going to be excited to hear back from this person, but don't let it interfere with your life at hand. Don't check your e-mail like 50 times a day, just decide on a time or two and stick to those times. Again, I am happy for you and I hope that your friendship with this person returns in a new kind of "grown up" way. Our society can be old-fashioned, there really isn't a problem with having friends of the the opposite sex, even if you are married. Having a friend, and having an affair are totally different things! Please make sure that you are honest about your situation. Does he know you are married? You know what I mean? Also, don't keep your husband in the dark about the situation. Even though the whole thing is totally innocent, you don't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

I don't think it sounds desperate at all. Just because it took that person 2 days to write back just might mean that they have been busy and didn't get a chance. Keep writing.

Personally, I write back as soon as I get the email, that way, you can get the reply sooner. You won't look desperate.

I don't think it matters. Relax. Re-connect with your old friend. If you start sending 2 or 3 emails in-between theirs, that would seem needy or desperate.

Same day is ok. I often reply that quick. But not always. Some times the next day is better.
