I don't abuse children. And I hope you don't abuse children. So when you say "we abuse them..." you're talking about the sensationalism that the media tells you about. I don't think it's any worse now than in the past; however, when the media makes deviant behavior seem commonplace, it sure may make someone prone to be deviant think it was okay. Yes, dsyfunctional families tend to promote more generations of dsyfunctional families, but the cycle can be broken with proper education. I don't hold such a pessimistic view about the world.
Your question is somewhat of a generalization of your view of the world today. But, remember, for every person that is pessimistic about the world just adds to the bad karma. Children are resilient and will grow up anyway and figure out how to run the world on their own...I don't think there's any use worrying about the weirdos.

There is no answer to this.
Its horrible- I know- I cry whenever I hear the news stories and I can't get most out of my head.
We have to educate people-continuosly.
And I'm a firm believer in parenting every child
What I mean is
When I was an abused child I prayed for someone to help but no one ever wanted to "butt in", that's crap-I'd rather piss off a parent than let a child possibly be hurt any day.-And not just physically-but emotionally as well.
It is our responsibilty to butt in to help our chil;dren-and help the parents realize what they are doing- they need help too.

I totally agree! And look at the fact that our society does not pay our teachers & our daycare providers well. It shows the value we place on our children if we don't demand and pay for the VERY BEST people to be in charge of and educate our kids. Movie stars and athletes get big bucks to entertain us, but these extremely important people get mediocre salaries and many times minimum wage is paid to day care providers. It's shameful, really.

i work we with abused children that have been removed from their home . most children don't feel that their being abused because it happens so often in their young life's that it becomes normal but it usually because the parents drink or do drugs. and the angrier that inside them comes out and alot of people that see don't want to get involved remember the most trusted person in a child life is their family

The we aspect of it is definitely a subjective statement, it you should have asked "Why do these things still occur in civilized societies, modern and not so modern".
Neglect is not always regret. Mind you in some terms it is.
On this material it is, has been, and will..........fix later, or who ever can in the now sense.
