When I went to the doctor he gave to an Iron supplement as well as my prenatal vitamins. Could you tell me why? I have not been taking the Iron and was wondering if this could be a part of why I get so tired during the day? Thanks!

Before you close and resolve your ? as being answered I found a site for you that explains the risk of to much iron or to little and other things you can do if you dont like taking the iron pills. when I was pergnant I did not like the pills but need to raise my iron level i was not anemic but til had low iron. So I hope this will help you feel more confiden about why you have to tkae the iron pills or why you need a certain amount of iron in your body.

Obviously, you're blood count was low.... a sign of anemia. Make sure you take them, because low iron can make you extremely tired... to the point where you may faint.
Chances are you'll need to take them after delivery as well, so be sure to cover this with your doctor.
Been there myself... by the way, iron can make you constipated. Pregnancy alone does that, and now add the iron... you'll definitely need to make sure you avoid constipation. You can also take in iron in natural foods... like spinach and lentils. I ate lots of raw spinach. You should do the same. You won't overdo it, even if you're taking the iron supplements. You can check with your doctor.

This happened to me with my 1st. I had low iron and the baby was sucking every nutrient out of my body as it was. When she was born she had a low iron count as well. Afer a few months, we were both fine and no more iron pills. It did make me weak and tired alot, almost "sickly tired". like I was coming down with the flu. Keep up the good work, and take care.

You are probably anemic. My doctor gave them to me too, but I have always been anemic. It just means you have a low blood iron count. Eat a lot of things that are high in iron like red meats and a lot of spinach. Mine make me a little sick so I take them with a glass of milk. It will coat your stomach and wont make you as sick with them. Hope this helps!

I was given iron when I was pregnant and it made be constipated. I wouldn't take it unless you are anemic. Otherwise you don't need it. Don't listen to these people. You don't need it unless the Dr. told you that you are anemic. Constipation can cause you a whole new set of problems. Ask your Dr. at your next visit if you are anemic and tell him/her that you don't need the iron unless you are.

They most likely did routine bloodwork (tests for some STDS, check blood type, etc..) and maybe the blood work showed that you were anemic which is why you were prescribed the iron. i was prescribed it with all my pregnancies. Just make sure you take it.

you could be anemic or almost so. and yes a lack of iron can cause fatigue! keep taking all the stuff those pill pushers push at you. or eat foods rich in iron and folic acid and you'll be fine. the baby too.
GOOD LUCK

Iron helps your blood carry oxygen. Which can be why you are tired. Take your iron supplement.

because you are anemic: low iron in your blood. and yes it is why you are tired all the time. being tired is also a common ailment in the first trimester and third also.
