because the detective did not hit rewind on the tape recorder. Someone would have had to stop the tape and rewind it for the detective to hit play and get the message. With the gunshot on tape, it could not have possibly been suicide.

the gun didnt drop from his hand? & if he shot himself immediately after the whole 'no purpose to live', shouldnt the tape recorder have been sent flyin somewhere else rather than perfectly on the desk?

the tape recorder was stopped, and it wasn't still recording. if he had shot himself, he couldn't have stopped the recorder!
